Okay, so after watching The Chaser a few dozen times, and reading a few interpretations of it, here’s my two cents:
The whole thing is backwards. Sunggyu dropping the key is the very last thing to happen, while Sungjong unlocking the box is the first. So, let me break it down chronologically:
- Sungjong has the key (he’s the first, didn’t have to kill anyone to get it XD) and unlocks the box
- Sungjong enters the maze
- Woohyun is in the maze, confused, key in his hand
- Hoya escapes the maze (no key is shown), goes for the dark staircase
- Dongwoo takes out all the lights he can
- Sungyeol is lost through some lights
- Dongwoo next to an accident (or a barbeque because smoke is all around) — my guess is Hoya came to this bridge after escaping but Dongwoo hit him
- Dongwoo gets chased by Sungyeol who catches up to him
- -blank- or L hits Sungyeol and takes the key.
- L has the key but sadly L also has an accident (I believe Sunggyu didn’t need any super power to do this, I mean from what I’ve seen in the movies cutting someone’s brakes off doesn’t need no super powers)
- Sunggyu gets key and droppes it to the ground (“that’s what you get for leaving me alone with the dogs on BOAF!”)
However, some things do not click. Sungjong enters the maze? Why? Does he know what he;s doing? Why is Woohyun there? And Hoya, too? Another opinion was that after Sungjong enters, Woohyun takes his key but doesn’t know the way out, so Hoya takes the key and escapes. Alas, Hoya is never shown with the key. After that, does the key really get to Dongwoo or Sungyeol? If not, what are they after? And anyway, how does the key get to L? Magic? Teleport? Post office? Did L hit Sungyeol with the car?
If anyone has any ideas, they’re welcome, I need to wrap my head around this ^-^
